Feeling completely blindsided by Jay’s anger towards War and his dismissal of me, I stumbled out of his room and back into the hall.

Something was going on at Centennial High, and I wouldn’t stop until I figured out what.

Chapter Four

The next morning at school, I was determined to infiltrate the Wolf Pack. I just didn’t know how. Realizing it deep in my gut that the only path to get to the truth of the matter was to get close to War was nauseating.

Watching Jody fawn all over him made me sick, and I knew I couldn’t stomach coming at him like that. So, I decided to do the next best thing…Antagonize him.Which would be easier than I thought, considering the fact they were tormenting Kevin as we spoke.

Across the cafeteria, Kevin was doing his best to hold onto his tray as his food was sliding around with the guys shoving him. War never touched him, however his eyes were glued to my face as I came walking towards them. Determined to save Kevin, I pretended to trip and spill my opened bottle of water all across the player’s table which included all of the Wolf Pack’s phones laying on top. Jody, Lauren, and Kelley all shouted and scooted away, afraid of getting wet.

The ripple of water seemed to engulf each and every phone before the jerks realized what happened. The looks on their faces were too comical. They went from laughing to racing towards the table to save their stupid devices. All the while, War sat at the head watching me coldly. My little ploy didn’t escape his notice.

With Kevin forgotten, I motioned with the shake of my head for him to get out out here, which he gladly obeyed.

“Oops, sorry guys. I’ll have to be more careful next time.” I apologized sweetly, but it sounded completely insincere even to me which caused me to fight back a laugh.

Danny stood up against me and I inhaled for a moment, afraid of what he might do. Yet, he looked at War and then sat back down. “No problem, Gemma. I’m sure it was an accident.”

I scooted off towards the table with Tasha and Kevin who was now shaking with fury. “I want to fuck every one of them up.” Slamming his fists against the table so hard, his tray rattled.

“Calm down, Kev.” Tasha soothed, “You know they’re just spineless jerks.”

She was right. Their strength came from numbers and the need to impress War, but take those two items out of the equation, they were just as vulnerable as the rest of us.

Although I felt sorry for Kevin, there was no way to console him. They made an embarrassment out of him whenever they could. With no real physical way to defend himself, Kevin was lost without the protection of Jay. With his brother in college, it was up to someone else to defend him and I was going to try my best draw the attention of the Wolf Pack off of him and onto me.
